Nelson and Dianne

April 2022

Nelson and Dianne Brown have several businesses we will explore that are quite essential for the life of Farmers and Ranchers and not often talked about.

The first business we would like to highlight is a Cow/ Calf and Hay operation on a 30 acre ranch in Angleton, Texas.

These members joined LAT to be kept abreast of resources and current programs to better their operations.

Dianne also has a test garden of a 1/8 acre where she planted several varieties of tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and okra.  She designed and had a irrigation system put in.  She's anxious to see if her idea comes to fruition for helping with the watering.

This couple has several other properties in Liberty County where they are in talks with the different USDA agencies providing advice on cross fencing, a pond and forestry.

Lastly, as a Veteran, socially disadvantaged minorities and a woman, they were able to open a funeral home.  This operation is based in Bay City but they are licensed to work all over the state.  Dianne explained the stress of being in Agriculture sometimes causes us to ignore the ideas of taking care of our physical and mental health.  Forgetting that we need to have insurance for after care or even pre-arranged funeral planning.

Nelson explained they are available to discuss this important issue of burial planning with just a call 979-330-2260.  "We would like to be the Funeral Service that Farmers and Ranchers depend on to understand their culture and take care of their final sacred burial rites."

Jackye has always been a person who “marches to the beat of her own drum”.  She has found her niche in the cattle industry and loves the “boots on the ground” approach with the ranch hands. It affords her the ability to gain insight regarding the land and cattle as it provides clarity for her future vision of increasingproduction.  Her dream of leaving a legacy for her family by expanding productivity and producing  “value added beef” to feed lots  is currently underway.

Her influencers are Prairie View A&M University and  GA AgriUnity Cooperative.  Currently an active member of AgriUnity-TX Start-up Co-op, 100 Ranchers and Landowners Association and is a client of the Farm Services Agency of Lavaca County and Lincoln Parish, she aims to be very vigilant in learning the cattle business and assisting others how to grow their cattle operations and create multiple revenue streams.
