ABOUT US

The Landowners Association of Texas is a 501(c)3 Non-profit Organization that exists to serve landowners in need of assistance: heirship property matters, reducing ECO consumption and waste, increasing efficiency and providing  alternatives to land development whenever appropriate.

OUR HISTORY

The Landowners Association of Texas, Inc. (LAT) was founded in 1978 with the primary goal of curtailing the alarming rate of which historically under utilized land owners are losing and have lost their land over the last 35 years.  The methods employed to accomplish goals include, but are not limited to, providing information and assistance to historically under utilized farmers are designed to help them

 

  • Maintain land

  • Acquire land​

  • Develop and utilize land in a profitable manner

  • Resolve land disputes through guidance and appropriate referrals

  • Increase knowledge about methods of land transfer to heirs

The LAT works with several organizations and agencies - the Cooperative Extension Program at Prairie View A&M University, the Texas Agrilife Extension, governmental agencies, and related organizations to provide educational programs that benefit the membership. The Association sponsors annually:
 

  • The Historically Under Utilized Farmers and Ranchers Conference

  • Educational tours of successful farm and ranch operations

  • Awards and recognition banquet for: Long-term maintenance

  • Land acquisition and development

 

In addition, the LAT supports students with their agricultural projects by providing funds for the purchase of starter animals, feed, and funds for workshops and more​.

MISSION AND VISION

Our Mission​

To reduce the rate of poverty experienced by minority landowners by providing support to programs that stimulate, foster, develop and implement the retention, acquisition and use of land.

Vision​

The Landowners Association of Texas (LAT) vision is that landowners will work with local community leaders, USDA, farm and ranch organizations, universities, and state and national government initiatives to implement programs that keep communities secure and healthy and ensure safe food from farm to table.
